Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his future after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got significant support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
