The disputed, US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) says it is terminating its relief activities in the affected area, after almost six months.

The group had previously halted its multiple aid distribution centers in Gaza following the halt in hostilities between Palestinian factions and Israel was implemented recently.

The organization attempted to avoid UN systems as the main supplier of aid to Gaza's population.

UN and other aid agencies refused to co-operate with its approach, saying it was unethical and unsafe.

Many residents were fatally wounded while attempting to obtain sustenance amid chaotic scenes near GHF's sites, primarily from Israeli forces, according to the UN.

Israel said its soldiers fired alerting fire.

Mission Completion

The GHF said on recently that it was concluding activities now because of the "effective conclusion of its emergency mission", with a total of three million packages containing the equivalent of more than 187 million meals delivered to Palestinians.

The foundation's chief officer, Jon Acree, additionally stated the United States-operated coordination body - which has been established to help execute the American administration's Gaza initiative - would be "taking over and developing the model GHF piloted".

"The organization's system, in which Hamas could no longer loot and profit from stealing aid, played a huge role in convincing militant groups to participate and securing a halt in hostilities."

Feedback and Statements

The Palestinian faction - which refutes aid diversion claims - welcomed the closure of the aid organization, as indicated by media.

A spokesman for stated the organization should be made responsible for the damage it inflicted to local residents.

"We urge all worldwide humanitarian bodies to ensure that it does not escape accountability after resulting in fatalities and harm of thousands of Gazans and obscuring the starvation policy employed by the Israel's administration."

Organization Timeline

The GHF began operations in Gaza on late May, a week after Israel had partially eased a complete restriction on relief and commercial goods to Gaza that continued for 77 days and led to substantial deficiencies of necessary provisions.

Three months later, a famine was declared in the Palestinian urban center.

The organization's sustenance provision locations in various parts of the Palestinian territory were managed by US private security contractors and situated within regions under Israeli military authority.

Relief Agency Issues

International organizations and their affiliates said the approach breached the fundamental humanitarian principles of non-partisanship, even-handedness and self-determination, and that guiding distressed residents into military-controlled areas was intrinsically hazardous.

The UN's human rights office stated it documented the killing of at least 859 Palestinians trying to acquire sustenance in the proximity to foundation locations between 26 May and 31 July.

An additional 514 individuals were killed near the courses followed by international humanitarian deliveries, it further stated.

Most of them were fatally wounded by the Israeli military, according to the office.

Contrasting Reports

The Israeli military stated its forces had discharged cautionary rounds at persons who advanced toward them in a "intimidating" manner.

The GHF said there were no shootings at the aid sites and accused the UN of using "inaccurate and deceptive" statistics from the Gazan medical department controlled by militant factions.

Ongoing Situation

The GHF's future had been indefinite since Hamas and Israel agreed a ceasefire deal to carry out the primary segment of the United States' reconciliation proposal.

The arrangement specified aid distribution would take place "free from intervention from the involved factions through the UN organizations and their partners, and the Red Crescent, in combination with other global organizations not connected in any way" with Hamas and Israel.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated recently that the organization's termination would have "no impact" on its activities "since we never collaborated with them".

The official further mentioned that while additional assistance was reaching the Palestinian territory since the truce was implemented on October 10th, it was "inadequate to meet all the needs" of the 2.1 million population.
