World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.

The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.

A Year of Dominance

Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The star player also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Record-Breaking Statistics

Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and picked up a historic £11m in earnings.

She garnered nearly 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.

Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level".

Other WTA Award Honorees

• Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
• Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
• Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.

Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
