The Actress States Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate appropriate to voice opinions countering the Trump administration, fearing it could intensify divisive discussions and deepen rifts throughout the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Lawrence
Speaking with media, Lawrence shared, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference at all on voter decisions.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the nation apart.”
Shifting Views
The actress has previously been open about voting for both right and leftwing candidates over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the Democrats and explaining she understood during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was opposing her own rights as a woman.
Previous Comments
Earlier in her career, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election could represent “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “since I think she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
The star was supported by numerous celebrities in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact stars have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“The second term seems distinct,” said she about his administration. “Because he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she stars as a recent parent who struggles with her emotional state in rural Montana. During a press conference for the film in Venice, she commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Additional Thoughts
She continued by stating that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discourse of American politics right now and how that is going to be normalised to the younger generation now. It’s going to be standard to them that elected officials deceive.”
Lawrence attempted to refocus anger about the situation to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge signed by thousands of entertainment industry figures to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her work in the new film. While the director has denied the narrative being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, she shared that she connected with elements of her role’s experience after the delivery of her youngest child, not long after production wrapped.
“It was fear regarding my baby,” she said, “imagining every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a treatment called that medicine and I took it for 14 days and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
The actor also mentioned regarding the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.
“It feels nice,” she remarked, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it isn’t a major concern.”
