The loved ones of teenagers missing after a devastating fire at a bar in a Switzerland's winter destination are enduring an painful wait for official news and appealing for clues about their family members publicly.

The fire engulfed the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Circulated footage depict the ceiling catching alight as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.

Authorities have stated that it could take an extended period to formally name the victims of the disaster, which resulted in the death of 40 people and injured another over a hundred.
